Canada is influenced by American pop culture; it isn’t hard to understand that the music that is popular in America will soon become popular in Canada. That is how it has been for centuries, ever since the first African-American soul music became a staple of American culture. While that music genre still has a relatively small influence on Canadian culture, it is still there. The same is true about pop and country music, which originated in America. But Canadians have made great strides in emerging out of the enormous shadow cast by the United States, and have produced many of their own stars from the aforementioned genres. Stars like Celine Dion, Jully Black, and Justin Bieber are all international celeb-rities, giving Canada a small claim to fame across the genre board.

Aside from hometown musical stardom, Canadians are also big fans of music videos. These videos are available on many Canadian cable television stations and online. The videos feature different themes, depending on the genre of the music and the specific artist. For example, country music videos often depict the notion of freedom and owning land. That is why country videos show a hardworking family toiling in the fields somewhere or generally enjoying the concept of living without fear of oppression. But a pop music video, such as one starring Canadian Justin Bieber, revolves around the theme of young love and relationships. The Canadian fans who watch these videos are interested in the unspo-ken but visual relationships displayed by the video director.
It is clear that Canada is just as diverse as the United States in its music and the music videos that are most popular.
